Cardinals followers with a keen memory for the details of the Adam Wainwright origin story may remember Dayton Moore as the person on the other end of the phone call who interrupted Wainwright in the process of asking his future father-in-law for his daughter’s hand in marriage.

Moore, then a member of the Atlanta Braves front office, delivered the life-changing news that Wainwright had been traded by the Braves to the Cardinals in 2003 . And so began a legend.
