A Waterbury fire station will be closing on Monday and it is expected to remain closed for around 10 months while improvements are made.

The Waterbury Fire Department said Fire Station 1, at 1979 North Main St., will temporarily close as of 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18 as part of the department’s operational and facility improvement plan.

While the station is closed, personnel, apparatus, and resources from the station will be redeployed to other stations throughout the city to maintain full emergency response coverage, according to the department.

They said they have worked with city officials to ensure that public safety remains unaffected.
