ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Changes to the state's discovery laws are now in effect. The shift aims to close a loophole to ensure cases aren't tossed out on technicalities.
This week on Empire State Weekly, Mary Pat Donnelly, the Rensselaer County District Attorney, explained that the changes give litigants more time during the discovery phase to review evidence before making a plea. Donnelly said this will help attorneys with getting cases to trial.
"As a whole, I think the DAs see it as a step toward getting it right. I think we were very frustrated by the changes that came down. Initially, there was no funding attached. It really increased the workload on the average Assistant DA," Donnelly said. "So, this isn't really gonna change our workload, but it's going to make it worth it when we
