HOUSTON (KIAH) — A part of the Gulf Freeway will be closed this weekend in both directions so workers can work on power lines above the freeway.

All lanes of I-45 will be closed starting at midnight Friday night and will reopen at 7 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17. The lanes will close starting northbound at the Tellepsen Street exit and southbound at the Cullen Boulevard exit.

Crews with CenterPoint Energy and the Texas Department of Transportation will be clearing transmission lines over the freeway as part of a major upgrade to enhance electric reliability and capacity in the area.

To help navigate the lane closures on the freeways, you can use the CW39 traffic map to find alternate routes.
