(FOX40.COM) — The sentencing of the former Major League Baseball player who shot his in-laws in 2021 could be delayed after the defendant filed to change attorneys on Friday, the Placer County Superior Court said.
Daniel Serafini was scheduled to be sentenced on Monday after a jury found him guilty of murder and attempted murder on July 14.
In addition to filing to change attorneys, Serafini requested proceedings be delayed to a further date.
On June 5, 2021, Serafini fatally shot his father-in-law, Robert Gary Spohr, and his mother-in-law, Wendy Wood, at their Lake Tahoe area home.
In October 2023, Serafini and his accomplice, Samantha Scott, were arrested in connection with the shooting in Nevada.
The trial that resulted in Serafini's conviction last month began in May.
