JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) - East Tennessee State University's Gatton College of Pharmacy held its white coat ceremony Friday, where 63 aspiring pharmacists completed the next step in their careers.

Madison Stacey and Nathan Skowronski were among the 63 students who received their white coats. Skowronski called it "a pleasure and honor," while Stacey said she felt "a lot of pride" knowing she'll represent an underserved area.

The ceremony is considered to be a rite of passage for beginning medical and pharmacy students to help establish a psychological contract for professionalism and empathy.

"I think with the white coat, it's, you know, it's a responsibility more than anything," Skowronski said. "People do really look to me to give them good information and help them with their health
