MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) --
A new bill signed into effect last month requires that most newly constructed buildings in New York run on electric, beginning in 2026. This means no natural gas, propane or fuel. The bill was signed in an effort to make New York more environmentally sustainable. Buildings operating on natural gas, propane, or fuel prior to Jan. 2026 are currently exempt from this law.
For local fuel companies, like G.A. Bove & Sons Inc, these changes are affecting the future of their livelihood. John Bove Jr. is the current owner of the business, which has been in the family for over 90 years.
