VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEVV) — In 2025 so far, at least four local Indiana counties are reporting some sort of West Nile virus activity.

Vanderburgh County recently joined Gibson, Spencer, Knox, and Posey counties after mosquitoes tested positive for the virus.

This also comes about a month after Indiana reported the state’s first human case of the virus in Vanderburgh County.

While officials say the virus seems to be more widespread than usual, doctors say it's nothing to be overly concerned about.

“The thing about West Nile is, about 80% of the cases are asymptomatic,” says Dr. Mark Martin of Martin Family Practice in Evansville. "Is it around here? Yes. Does it flare up once in a while? Yes. Is it severe in most cases? No.”
