DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado health officials on Friday confirmed a case of measles in an adult resident in Mesa County.

In a press release, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said that in conjunction with Mesa County Public Health, the agencies found that the adult resident had no "known connection to other recent exposures reported in Colorado and has not traveled outside the state."

CDPHE noted that because of the "lack of a clear source of infection," the case suggests it could have been a result of community transmission in the Grand Junction area.

The adult is said by health officials to not have received the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.

Health officials say that measles is a highly contagious but preventable disease through vaccinations.
