PHOENIX — A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into a Maricopa County jail.

Paralegal Christopher Byers submitted paperwork for an inmate at the 4th Avenue Jail on Aug. 14, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. The paperwork was inspected, and because multiple pages were "discolored," a field test was conducted.

The papers tested positive for "synthetic cannabinoids," a news release from MCSO states.

Byers was arrested, and a search warrant was executed for his home, "where multiple items of evidence were located," the news release said.
