JACKSON, MI - Rain and shine, Jackson PrideFest hosted its annual event in downtown Jackson on Saturday, Aug. 16.
Starting off with a “Walk of Pride,” at Consumers Energy where performer and drag queen Betty J sang the National Anthem to start off the ceremonial walk through downtown until they reached the event area.
Rebecca Calkins, a Jackson Pride board member, said the importance of celebrating Pride is relevant now more than ever.
“Our theme this year is ‘Equality Now,’” Calkins said. “No turning back, and we are facing attacks from all over, and they’re trying to roll back the rights that we have worked so hard to achieve.”
At the park, people enjoyed food trucks, craft vendors, nonprofits and community resources.
