The Seattle skyline flared with new colors on Friday as the Indian Tricolor was hoisted atop the Space Needle for the first time, marking India’s 79th Independence Day.

The moment, celebrated by city leaders and the vibrant Indian American community, underscored Seattle’s role as a center for diversity and international friendship. India’s consul general and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell attended, among other officials.

“It’s a profound symbol of pride for the Indian community in Seattle. It reflects the achievements of New India — its youth, tech professionals, and growing global influence, especially in the Pacific Northwest,” said Prakash Gupta, Consul General of India in Seattle.
