At a time when we are harangued by many who equate leadership and government with brutality, intolerance, absolute power, condemnation, and a warrior ethos, I found Faye Seidler’s column “ Fargo needs to find ways to heal ” a breath of fresh air.
One statement sums up her view. “We can never be completely safe or respond perfectly to every situation, but we can invest in structures that give people meaningful support and lead to less violence. We will experience trauma again, but we can be resilient by finding and creating spaces to process, connect, and heal as people when it happens.”
With this statement Seidler lays bare the required ingredient for all of us to flourish – kindness, human kindness. And so, I am clear, I am not referring to softness. Kindness is not softness.
