WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WNCN) -- One direction of U.S. 1 in Wake Forest is closed Sunday afternoon following a major crash involving two cars, officials said.
The wreck was reported just after 1:15 p.m. along U.S. 1 at Jenkins Road/Stadium Drive, according to Bill Crabtree, Wake Forest town spokesman.
The crash has closed all southbound lanes of U.S. 1 near the Wake Forest Crossing shopping center, Crabtree told CBS 17.
Injuries were reported in the wreck, but the extent of the injuries was not immediately known, Crabtree said.
North Carolina Department of Transportation maps indicated southbound traffic was backed up about a mile. Northbound traffic was also gridlock back to the Durham Road interchange.
No other information was released.
