ATLANTA — Atlanta is so well-known for its extensive tree canopy that one of its nicknames is "City in a Forest" — and some newly-published rankings validate that.
The website Lawn Love published its list of 2025 Top Cities for Tree Huggers, and Atlanta clocked in at No. 3.
The rankings scored cities on three metrics — tree canopy rank, urban tree infrastructure rank and climate rank. Atlanta ranked 18th for canopy, 21st for infrastructure and fifth for climate, good for an overall score of 57.42 that put it behind only Columbus, Georgia and Nashville.
The best tree-hugger cities were overwhelmingly concentrated in the Southeast — just in Georgia alone, the list also features Athens at No. 5, South Fulton at No. 9, Roswell at No. 10 and Sandy Springs at No. 13.
