AN AMERICAN tourist was left with severe injuries after being attacked by a shark while spearfishing.

The horror incident took place in the Bahamas on Sunday, according to authorities.

The 63-year-old man was mauled by the beast at around 1pm near Big Grand Cay.

He sustained "severe injuries", according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

The tourist was taken local clinic for medical treatment, after which he was airlifted to the US for further help.

The full extent and nature of his injuries is not known.

A police statement reads: "Police on the island of Abaco responded to a shark attack that occurred shortly after 1pm on Sunday 17 August 2025, near Big Grand Cay.
