NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven police are investigating after gunfire left one man dead and another injured early Sunday morning.

Around 2:50 a.m., police heard gunshots on College Street between Crown and Chapel Streets.

Arriving officers found Dillon Cornelius, 18, of West Haven, who was lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police.

Investigators found multiple shell casings and several vehicles and businesses in the area that were hit by gunfire.

American Medical Response brought Cornelius to Yale New Haven Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

In addition, a second victim, a 23-year-old man from Hamden, later walked into Yale New Haven Hospital with a non-life-threatening graze wound.
