Information reaching our news desk indicates that there was chaos in Chitipa today after a police operation targeting illegal fuel sales led to violent clashes with street vendors.

The operation involved the seizure of fuel allegedly being sold on the black market. In retaliation, angry vendors pelted stones, burned tyres at the roundabout, and later stormed Chipiku Stores.

Police responded by calling for reinforcements and firing teargas to disperse the crowd.

The unrest caused panic and disrupted business in the town.

Authorities have yet to confirm if any arrests were made or if there were injuries during the incident.
