Des Moines police are investigating after a body was found in the Des Moines River.

First responders were called to the area around the Women of Achievement Bridge around 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 to investigate a report of a body in the water. Emergency personnel located a body of "an obviously deceased person," according to a news release from the Des Moines Police Department.

The body was not recovered on Sunday due to fast-flowing water, the location's proximity to the damn and dark conditions. Recovery efforts will resume Monday morning, the release said.

The Women of Achievement Bridge, Bobber Park and nearby trails are temporarily closed.

Police are investigating whether this body is connected to reports of a person in the water received early on Aug. 10, the release said.
