ENFIELD, N.C. (WTVD) -- A CSX cargo train carrying coal derailed in Halifax County Sunday afternoon, blocking the tracks and disrupting passenger train services along the East Coast.

The derailment occurred around 4 p.m., involving 28 loaded coal cars on the mainline east of West Franklin Street in Enfield, according to a CSX spokesperson.

As of Monday morning, coal cars remain on the tracks, and cleanup efforts are underway. Authorities have confirmed no injuries, hazardous material leaks, or threats to the surrounding community.

However, Amtrak services nationwide, including routes to and from Raleigh, have been canceled. There is no update on when service will resume.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
