However, a Community Note attached to her post explained that the large blue area in the northeast is the Chicago metropolitan region, home to about 9.5 million people—roughly three-quarters of the state’s 12.5 million residents.

That population concentration, not gerrymandering, is why Democrats win statewide elections. Maps shaded by county can be misleading, since they emphasize land area over population.
