The conservative television network Newsmax has agreed to pay $67 million to settle a defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems. The case stemmed from the network’s role in amplifying false claims that former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 election due to fraud.
The settlement, disclosed in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, comes on the heels of similar high-profile cases. In 2023, Fox News paid Dominion $787.5 million, and earlier this year, Newsmax paid $40 million to settle a separate case brought by another voting machine company, Smartmatic.
Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis, who also oversaw the Fox News case, had previously ruled that Newsmax did indeed defame Dominion by broadcasting false claims. The judge had left it to a jury to deci
