Rep. Andy Ogles declared tweeted that Donald Trump should be given a third term, a Nobel Peace Prize, and allowed to run Washington, D.C. “as long as he wants.” The post quickly drew a community note reminding users that the U.S. Constitution explicitly forbids this.

The 22nd Amendment states that no person may be elected president more than twice, setting a firm two-term limit. Ogles’s remark mirrors rhetoric from some Trump allies who have floated repealing term limits, but such a change would require a constitutional amendment—a politically and procedurally daunting process.

For now, the law remains clear: a third presidential term is off the table, barring a change to the Constitution or the ignoring of it.
