Hurricane Erin is a powerful storm in the Atlantic. After becoming the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, it rapidly intensified into a Category 5 storm just one day later.

NOAA's Hurricane Hunters have an important job flying through the storm, collecting critical data to help improve hurricane forecasting and support research.

NOAA's WP-3D Orion Hurricane Hunter aircraft had a bumpy ride through Category 5 hurricane Erin on Saturday, Aug. 16 as it moved over the western Atlantic. Watch the video below.
