Letter: Column criticizing BLM distracts from the damage MAGA is doing

The cavern between progressive and conservative priorities was clear in Sunday’s Post-Dispatch: Tony Messenger wrote about the growing threat of food insecurity resulting from Donald Trump’s policies (" Food pantries in St. Louis face longer lines and rising prices ," Aug. 17) and Lynn Schmidt wrote about a favorite political target of the right, Black Lives Matter. (" The tornado devastated Black neighborhoods. Where was the BLM organization? " Aug. 17).

Schmidt impugns the civic virtue of the region’s Black leaders, suggesting they don’t truly care about Black lives, and deliberately misrepresents the political aims of Black Lives Matter. The goals of that political movement were more specific than the name suggests, as Schmidt is surely aware. I notice she doesn’t take the "pro-lif
