SOL DUC – Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officials say two anglers face multiple citations after they were caught illegally snagging salmon near the Sol Duc Fish Hatchery last week.
According to WDFW, an officer observed the men fishing downstream of the hatchery’s intake creek, repeatedly ripping heavy twitching jigs through groups of salmon. After one angler landed a fish, the pair packed up and started back toward the trailhead carrying four chinook.
When the officer stepped out and identified himself, he saw two of the fish had clear snag marks, while the others appeared to be legally hooked. Officials said one of the anglers muttered, “oh, great,” when confronted.
The men admitted two salmon had been foul-hooked, and those fish were seized. WDFW said citations will also
