The Louisiana Attorney General is calling for a full refund for New Orleans drivers issued tickets in school zones from Aug. 1, 2024 through May 2025.
Attorney General Liz Murrill issued a letter to the City of New Orleans not only calling for refunds, but also warning of legal action and criminal charges will be pursued if anyone in the city activates the cameras without following state law. Advertisement
On Aug. 1, 2024, a new state law required that local municipalities enter into a cooperative endeavor agreement with the school districts on how the revenue would be split from cameras.
The city has no agreements in place with NOLA Public Schools or any private schools in the city, yet activated the cameras anyways last August. The money from tickets was kept in escrow.
