Charges for unsafely storing a gun against a Detroit man have been dismissed after the victim failed to show up in court, according to prosecutors.
Geris Gordon, 26, was charged last month with violating Michigan's safe firearm storage law after his 18-year-old brother and 13-year-old neighbor found an allegedly unsecured gun in his apartment and the 13-year-old shot Gordon's brother in the wrist.
Michigan's safe gun storage law, which went into effect on Feb. 13, 2024, requires residents to keep unattended weapons unloaded and locked with a locking device or stored in a locked box or container if it is reasonably known a minor is likely to be present.
