COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A Sumter man has been sentenced to federal prison after he pleaded guilty to shooting energy equipment and possessing child sex abuse material.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Donald Ray Hurst Jr. was sentenced Monday to more than 10 years in federal prison. He pleaded guilty in December 2024 to for destruction of an energy facility and possession of child sexual abuse material.

Hurst’s charges were linked to an August 2023 incident in Dalzell.

Duke Energy had called law enforcement after a power outage was reported. During an investigation, FBI agents and Sumter County Sheriff’s Office deputies saw that the regulator bank had multiple bullet holes.
