CANAAN, N.H. (WCAX) - What police first called a suspicious death in the Upper Valley is now being investigated as a homicide.

Authorities say officers doing a welfare check at a home on Sawyer Hill Road in Canaan, New Hampshire, on Sunday found the body of William Colao, 67.

An autopsy revealed he was stabbed multiple times and then died after he was shot in the head.

Although police have not yet identified a suspect, officials say there is no threat to the public.

They say they are withholding some information to protect the integrity of the investigation.
