MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Hundreds of South Memphis residents experienced an outage that was caused by a speeding car that crashed into a utility pole.

Residents told WREG that outages happen often in the area.

"We call and we call, some of us get crazy answers, some of us get good situational answers, but today it is too hot for the power to be off," said Jean Carson, whose home was without power.

Carson said it was tough getting answers to why her power was out at her home located off Dwight and Charjean Road.

"We have seniors over here that've been over here for 50 years, which are in their 60's, 70's and 80's, even some in their 90's, my mother is one, she's 94," said Carson.

Other neighbors said the heat has been making them think about their next steps.
