Fluffy the turtle, Spike the bearded dragon and Checkers the corn snake were the stars of the show at Ludington Library on Monday during a Reptile Show with a visit from Raven Hill Discovery Center.
As part of the summer reading program, kids were thrilled to learn about facts and the anatomy of the three reptiles during a fun presentation by Cheri Leach.
Kids were fascinated to learn that Fluffy was at least 28 years old — a variety of turtle that lives in the woods and digs into the roots of trees. The back shell is part of the turtle’s skeleton, Leach said. Spike, the bearded dragon, is native to Australia and has a third-eye on his head to see shadows of predators swooping down.
“It is better to be safe than somebody’s lunch,” Leach said.
