On Tuesday at 2:28 a.m. the National Weather Service released a high surf advisory valid from Wednesday 6 a.m. until Thursday 6 p.m. for Brooklyn and Queens.

"Large breaking waves of 6 to 10 feet expected in the surf zone on Wednesday and 9 to 13 feet expected on Thursday," describes the weather service. "More widespread beach erosion is possible with the Thursday evening and Friday morning high tide cycles. The High Surf Advisory and High Rip Current Risk will likely need to be extended through Friday with future updates."
