UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A person was shot by a Union County deputy who was responding to a domestic dispute in Wingate early Tuesday morning, officials said.

The Union County Sheriff's Office was responding to a home on Canary Court when one of the deputies opened fire, the sheriff's office said. The person who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The sheriff's office said that the person is in stable condition and expected to survive. All deputies who responded to the scene are safe and uninjured.

Lt. James Maye said the sheriff's office has been called to the home multiple times for domestic disturbances.
