GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Three years after its discovery, West Michigan’s local mastodon will be fully on display next month.
The Clapp Family Mastodon exhibit will open to the public Thursday, Sept. 11 at the Grand Rapids Public Museum at 272 Pearl St., NW.
The display will include a fully articulated, 3D-printed model on the museum’s first floor beside a selection of real bones from the find. Museum visitors from now to the grand opening will be able to witness the progress on the main floor, getting a unique glimpse into the exhibit construction process, from the installation of graphics to the assembly of the skeleton.
“It’s gratifying to have this specimen right here in Grand Rapids for research, education, and enjoyment,” Dale Robertson, president and CEO of the GRPM, said in a statemen
