MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has announced that there have been reports of scammers posing as CBI Cyber Crimes special agents over the phone.

According to the CBI, the scammers claim to have detected a cybercrime and ask their potential victim to provide them with personal information, including financial account details and remote access to their computer.

The caller provides a call-back number that is not affiliated with the CBI.

The scammers may have a surprising amount of real information about the caller and the CBI, which was gathered from publicly available information, the CBI stated.
