CRETE, Neb. (KOLN) - Authorities are investigating a swatting call that shut down Doane University Tuesday morning - the second day of classes for the fall semester.

The university received a report at 8:45 a.m. of a possible armed suspect in the restroom of the Communications Building on the Crete campus.

According to Doane University, campus security immediately issued a lockout/secure notice to all faculty, staff and students, instructing everyone to remain inside secured buildings.

Fifteen officers with the Crete Police Department and Saline County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene within minutes of the initial report and gave an “all clear” at 9:41 a.m. Authorities determined the incident was a possible “swatting” call — a false report intended to trigger a large emergency response
