NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — With the school year around the corner, parents are mapping out how to get their children to extra-curricular activities, including sports, work or early college classes.
A state grant provided $175,000 to New Haven Public Schools to help alleviate the financial burden for students using the city's public buses. For students up to 18 years old, a bus ticket with 10 rides costs about $13— that's only one school week's worth of transportation.
The district tells News 8 they used the money to buy about 19,000 bus tickets. Some of the bus cards handed out were preloaded with 10 rides and others had two hours of rides loaded on.
