ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Suitcases, cars, and crowds of families rolled into UAlbany for freshman move-in day. For many families, it’s the moment children become college students and parents learn to let go.

Incoming freshman Noly Daniel said that stepping onto campus felt like stepping into her future, "Starting a new chapter, building my way into my career that I'm starting after college, actually forging my own path. And last but not least, becoming the person that I want to be."

Move-in day often brings hugs, photos, and some tears as families say goodbye. And while students are taking their first steps towards independence, parents say their role never really ends.
