(WSPA) - Runoffs for the special primary election for Spartanburg County sheriff and a vacant Spartanburg County Council seat were held Tuesday, August 19.

Bill Rhyne and Rusty Clevenger advanced to the runoff for sheriff after finishing one and two in a group of nine Republicans in the primary two weeks ago.

The winner of the runoff will likely become the next sheriff as they will be unopposed in the general election in November.

In the race for the Council District 3 seat, Republicans Paul Abbott, Jr. and Jason Lynch advanced to the runoff after finishing atop a field of six primary candidates.

The winner of the runoff will face Democrat Kathryn Harvey and Forward Party candidate Sarah Gonzalez in November.
