SOLON, Ohio — As students in Solon head back to class this week, a major road construction project on SOM Center Road is creating additional stress for families already navigating the first-day-of-school rush.
On Tuesday, the city launched Phase 2 of its SOM Center Road reconstruction project, closing the southbound lanes between Ada Drive and Linden Drive. Only northbound traffic is permitted in this section for the duration of this phase, which is expected to last through Aug. 26.
Drivers are now being detoured through Aurora, Liberty, and Pettibone roads — adding both time and confusion for families dropping off students.
“It was unique getting over here, because I knew that one of the directions was closed and now the other one is closed,” said Scott Felix, a Solon parent.
