AUBURN, Maine — An Auburn man who admitted to kidnapping, sexually assaulting, and attempting to kill a 13-year-old girl in 2022 has been sentenced to 56 years in prison.

Razel M. Gavin had previously pleaded guilty to kidnapping, gross sexual assault, and aggravated attempted murder. Prosecutors said Gavin abducted the teen at gunpoint, subjected her to repeated sexual assaults, and tried to kill her.

Police said the girl was abducted from a parking lot in April 2022 after her family lost contact with her during a phone call. Surveillance footage showed a man driving a Volvo station wagon entering the lot before quickly leaving.
