KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - With a flood warning in effect for the Neuse River and Hurricane Erin approaching, set to bring rain and gusty winds, Kinston Fire-Rescue and the Neuseway Nature Park are getting prepared.

Hurricane Erin, swirling in the Atlantic, could create some concerns for Kinston as the WITN First Alert Weather Team says the storm’s expected to bring 20-25 mph winds to the city, along with some rain.

While Kinston Fire-Rescue Captain Stevens Nimmo says they aren’t too worried, they are prepared for any changes that could come with the storm.

“We have our high-water rescue vehicle,” Captain Nimmo said. “We can go into deep water and rescue people from stranded motorists to people stuck in their homes. We also have our new jet ski to go out on the river.”
