The Southwest Allen County Schools leader outlined plans Tuesday to give families – both residents and non-residents – more enrollment options.

Starting next year, the district plans to launch a process allowing resident families to send their children to a SACS school other than their assigned school. It would also open its doors to non-residents.

Intradistrict and interdistrict transfers are part of a four-phase plan that supports SACS' desire to be the district of choice – a distinction measured by enrollment and educational opportunities, Superintendent Joshua St. John told the school board.

SACS faces a fourth consecutive year of declining enrollment, Chief Operating Officer Randi Libby said. The district has more than 500 fewer students than it did in fall 2021.
