AKRON, Ohio (WJW) -- The potential loss of school resource officers within the Akron Public School District has been prevented just in time for the start of classes.
The Akron School Board reached an agreement with the city and Fraternal Order of Police to retain the officers for two more years.
According to the agreement, the school board believes that the deployment of SROs will "increase safety and support positive relationships between assigned officers, students and community members."
Akron police agree.
“The SRO in school is something we at the police department and the city feel is important. not only to help the schools create those safe learning environments, but it’s also a great way for officers to mentor the youth,” Akron Police Public Information Officer Lt. Brent Bauknec
