Reaching out to youth in the Scottville and Baldwin communities with free backpacks with school supplies and staff is something local resident Michael Shaw and his family look forward to each year.

This year, the backpack giveaway in Baldwin will take place from noon until gone on Saturday, Aug.. 23, at Pathfinder Library at 812 Michigan Avenue. The giveaway in Scottville will be from noon until gone on Saturday, Aug. 30 at West Shore Bank in Scottville, 107 W. State Street.

“Originally it was my daughter’s (Lori’s) idea to do something for Scottville in 2018. My daughter Lori had a day care in Scottville at the time.
