BOWLING GREEN — In an era in which many people have a dim view of manufacturing jobs, what can northwest Ohio manufacturers do to attract and retain workers?
That was the primary question discussed Tuesday at a conference sponsored by the Center to Advance Manufacturing, an organization led by Bowling Green State University, Owens Community College, and the University of Findlay. The conference was held at BGSU and included business, academic, and political leaders.
Participants asked whether it is better to recruit skilled workers from out of state or to develop them here in Ohio. What’s cool about manufacturing? Is there a downside to automating entry-level positions? How can the region retain talented young people in the manufacturing field?
