SAULT STE. MARIE — The first mothers and babies in the Eastern Upper Peninsula are set to graduate from the Rx Kids program, which has provided more than $800,000 in no-strings-attached financial support to families since its launch in the region in March.

According to an Aug. 20 news release, Rx Kids gives eligible mothers $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 per month during a baby’s first six months.

The program, now nearing its six-month milestone in Alger, Chippewa, Luce, Mackinac, and Schoolcraft counties, has reached more than 320 families. A recent survey shows families are experiencing improved health, greater financial stability, and stronger confidence in caring for their children.
