TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse County Health Department has lifted public health advisories for Clinch Park Beach and Sunset Park Beach after new water samples confirmed E. coli levels are within state safety standards.
According to an Aug. 20 news release, the initial advisory, which was issued Aug. 19, followed an accidental release of about 500 gallons of sewage into Kids Creek during sewer main repair work. Testing showed both beaches now meet Level 1 full-body contact standards set by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.
While the beaches are safe for swimming, Kids Creek and parts of the Boardman/Ottaway River remain under a Level 4 no-body contact advisory. Water samples collected Wednesday are still being processed.
