LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - There’s a new effort to make Downtown Louisville a little greener.

More than a dozen organizations have signed the Greenprint Charter, which is their formal commitment to use nature to make the Downtown area more vibrant and improve the health of Louisvillians.

The collaborative includes city government, non-profits and grassroots groups- working together to improve air quality, reduce heat islands and boost mental and physical health.

“We would first learn the pollution and noise being spread in the city,” Aruni Bhatnagar, who is the UofL Professor of Medicine and Division of Environmental Medicine, explained. “Where are the hot spots within downtown? Where is the greatest need? We want to plant trees and shrubs that are needed and not convenient.”
